Religion Major for Honors Students

The Department of Religion is Seton Hall’s home for comparative religion, inter-religious dialogue, ecumenical theology, and religious and social ethics. The Religion curriculum focuses on the theological, ethical, and cultural dimensions of Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant Christianity and other religious traditions, particularly the Jewish and Muslim traditions. The Department offers a major and minor in Religion and a Master of Arts degree in Jewish-Christian Studies. Our Religion Majors have gone onto graduate school (law, medicine, doctoral studies), gained coveted spots in Teach for America, landed jobs in business and nonprofits, and have served the mission of various religious communities (Christian, Jewish, and Muslim).

For Honors Students:
• After completing the 4 Honors Colloquia, Honors students may complete the Religion Major by fulfilling the following requirements: 12 credits from the Religion Department’s 2000 or 3000-level courses, 6 credits of which must be at the 3000-level.
• In consultation with the Religion Department chairperson, Honors students majoring in Religion may focus the 12-credit requirement in one of four concentrations: Scripture, Ecumenical Theology, Comparative Religions/Inter-religious Dialogue, or Religious and Social Ethics.
• An additional 3-credit capstone or senior thesis may be possible upon further consultation with the Religion Department chairperson.

This opportunity for Honors students applies whether Religion is designated as your first major or second major (or even third major).
