Intermittant Internet Problems This Morning

Beginning approximately 8:00 AM this morning, Sunday, October 12, University IT Services began receiving reports that some campus systems were not available, including the campus Web site (www.shu.edu) and Blackboard.

Testing showed that the outage was intermittent and depended on users' Internet Service Provider (ISP). Users of Comcast and Verizon were able to access campus servers from off campus, while users of AT&T and Optimum Online were not. Blackboard login was affected by this intermittant outage.

The University's Internet vendor, Level3, identified a problem with one of their circuits, and corrected the problem. Full service was restored approximately 1:30 PM this afternoon.

Last week the University's Blackboard systems were upgraded to the latest version (Blackboard 8). This new version provides improvements in the discussion boards, grade book, and other Blackboard features. An overview of the changes in Blackboard 8.0 can be found at: http://tltc.shu.edu/blackboard/

Following the upgrade, the University is working with Blackboard to tune the system for optimal performance. As the new system is tunes over the next few days access to these features will return to normal.
