Emmanuel’s Blogging Plans

Desktop after work

Platform & Goals

I plan to blog on content I find interesting using a common product called WordPress. With WordPress, I will be able to express my ideas and insights on my passions. I have an interest in Software Engineering (SWE) and I plan to work as one post college graduation. I wish to be able to discuss topics and trending issues in the SWE industry which will connect me to a network of individuals that share my passions.

Strategies

To ensure the content I post is interesting and relevant, I will do an internet research prior to any blog post I make. In this research, I will look into topics that I find interesting and know other individuals in the SWE space will appreciate. I will bring forward popular concerns, briefly summarize them and offer my personal takes. Based on the topic, I will feature relevant individuals in the software niche and offer commentary on them.

As I am intent on having my blog be aesthetically pleasing and easily navigable. I plan to obtain design insights from great SWE blogs like:

These sites are very intuitive and all employ various techniques to retain users. It is obvious that careful thought has been given to the placing of page objects such that the most useful information is readily visible to the users. The user interface is neat and any first timer can navigate the site without much difficulty.

Communication & Interaction

In an effort to be pro-active with building my SWE network, I will ensure all my blogs have a “comment” feature. This will facilitate my audience with the ability to communicate meaningful or useful information to me and also allow me to respond and keep the blog truly engaging. I do not wish this blog to be a diary of sorts nor a news outlet. My desire is to discuss matters within the SWE career space and provide like-minded individuals an opportunity to interact with my ideas and/or statements.

  1. Hi Emmanuel,
I am glad that you included User Interface in your discussion. I wish we had more time to discuss UX Design (and the related concept of LX Design). Maybe I can include some additional resources around these topics so that everyone thinks about the template that they have chosen from an end-users perspective.
Looking forward to your future posts!

  2. Hey Emmanuel

Great stuff… In fact, when I read the content under your Strategies section at the end of your post, I wished that I had formatted my blog to look more like yours. That section specifically is extremely clean and well-formatted! Your entire post is, but that section in particular jumped out at me.
The content of your blog is great. An engineer, wow! Nice use of photos and headers to make it a very easy read. Really super job, I can’t wait to read more.

One of your links sent me down a rabbit hole, which was fun! As a photographer, I have a complicated relationship with Instagram and the blog you shared provided a different perspective of the app than I have ever seen. It was fascinating!

If I had to give one note, I would say maybe try to loosen up your writing a little, and make it a little more casual. I am still figuring out the balance myself, and sometimes I tend to go *too* casual. Your post did not come off as stuffy or too formal, but maybe it could be a little looser in the future as you start getting into the meat of your blog. BUT it was still a great post, so don’t think I’m being critical!

    Excited to see whats next!
    Michael

  3. Hi Emmanuel,
I love your use of subtitles to organize the information in your post based on purpose. Your use of images and hyperlinks effectively positions your blog as both engaging and resourceful too.
Looking forward to reading more from you!
    Christina
