A big celebratory \u201ckudos\u201d goes out to the following\u00a0individuals for representing our university and higher education department.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0.05em\"><strong><a href=\"mailto:katherine.czado@student.shu.edu\">Katherine C. Aquino<\/a><\/strong> was invited to participate in the Emerging Scholars Workshop. Participants engaged with\u00a0<\/span>senior scholars in the field on such topics as articulating and advancing career goals, examining career options at\u00a0different types of institutions, maximizing publication success, and building a long-term career. Participants\u00a0received detailed feedback on their CVs and heard from deans and other university leaders about preparing for\u00a0the hiring and promotion process at different types of institutions.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"mailto:rong.chen@shu.edu\">Dr. Rong Chen<\/a><\/strong> served as a discussant for a session titled: Economic and Financial Factors in College Access and Persistence:\u00a0The Good, Bad and Terrible? The panel included researchers from The University of Arizona, Texas Tech\u00a0University, University of Louisville, University of Wisconsin-Madison and Seton Hall University. Coincidentally,\u00a0Dr. Kelchen represented our university as a panelist at this session and his accepted proposal was a dual effort\u00a0(co-authored by Sara Goldrick-Rab) that focused on \u201cMaking Sense of Loan Aversion: Evidence from\u00a0Wisconsin.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"mailto:colleen.evans@student.shu.edu\">Dr. Colleen A. Evans<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"mailto:rong.chen@shu.edu\">Dr. Rong Chen<\/a><\/strong> were panel participants in a session titled The Many Perspectives and\u00a0Understandnings of STEM. Their accepted proposal focused on the \u201cDeterminants of STEM majors choice: A\u00a0comparison between community college and four-year institutions.\u201d Dr. Evans is a recent doctoral graduate of\u00a0the ELMP Department of Seton Hall University and is currently an employee at Dominican College. Other\u00a0members of the panel represented The University of West Georgia, Georgia Institute of Technology, Emroy\u00a0University, Rutgers University and University of Maryland-College Park.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"mailto:reema.negi@student.shu.edu\">Reema Negi<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"mailto:eunyoung.kim@shu.edu\">Dr. Eunyoung Kim<\/a><\/strong> collectively\u00a0presented a poster session under the topic of Globalization\u00a0in Postsecondary\/Higher Education. Their poster was titled\u00a0the \u201cPsychosocial Adjustment of International Students:\u00a0Cross-Group Analysis of Exchange and Degree-Seeking\u00a0Students.\u201d Other researchers within this poster session\u00a0represented the University of Louisiana, Arkansas State\u00a0University, Iowa State University, University of South\u00a0Carolina, University of Texas, and Columbia University.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"mailto:robert.kelchen@shu.edu\">Dr. Robert Kelchen<\/a><\/strong> was a panel participant in a session titled: P-20 Education Finance. His proposal focused on\u00a0\u201cFinancial Need and Income Volatility among Students with Zero Expected Family Contribution.\u201d Other\u00a0researchers on the panel represented University of California-Davis, University of California-Berkley, University\u00a0of Southern California, Salisbury University, and University of Wisconsin-Madison.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Save the date &#8211; The <a title=\"AERA Annual Meeting\" href=\"http:\/\/www.aera.net\/EventsMeetings\/AnnualMeeting\/tabid\/10208\/Default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">2015 AERA Annual Meeting<\/a>\u00a0is April 16 &#8211; 20, 2015 in Chicago!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The following students and faculty members attended, presented or facilitated sessions at this year\u2019s AERA\u00a0Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania April 3-7th.
