April 2018: Author Book Talk–A Conversation on Higher Education Accountability by Dr. Robert Kelchen

As the price tag of higher education continues to rise, colleges and universities across the country are under increasing pressure from multiple stakeholders to demonstrate their value. State and federal governments as well as crediting bodies demand greater accountability. Foundations and private donors, as well as today’s parents and students, approach higher education with consumer sensibility. Meanwhile, faculty, staff, and college rankings providers all have their visions for what higher education should look like. How can colleges navigate these pressures while trying to stay true to their missions and values?

Robert Kelchen, assistant professor in the Department of Education Leadership, Management and Policy at Seton Hall University, will discuss these topics based on his new book Higher Education Accountability (Johns Hopkins University Press). Kelchen is nationally recognized as higher education scholar with research published in top academic journals and is regularly quoted in The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal. His presentation will be followed by a question and answer session and a book signing.
