{"id":2133,"date":"2016-11-29T16:25:23","date_gmt":"2016-11-29T21:25:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/fundingopportunities\/?p=2133"},"modified":"2016-11-29T16:25:23","modified_gmt":"2016-11-29T21:25:23","slug":"creating-humanities-communities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/fundingopportunities\/2016\/11\/29\/creating-humanities-communities\/","title":{"rendered":"Creating Humanities Communities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Colleagues,<\/p>\n<p>The National Endowment for the Humanities is pleased to announce that applications for The Creating Humanities Communities Program are being accepted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BACKGROUND:<\/strong> \u00a0The\u00a0Creating Humanities Communities program provides matching grants to help stimulate and proliferate meaningful humanities activities in states and U.S. territories underserved by NEH&#8217;s grant making divisions and offices. \u00a0Grantees will use the funds to establish and undertake new humanities programs. \u00a0The goal of these grants is to make connections between organizations that will foster community cohesion on a local or regional level. \u00a0Applicants may define community in a variety of ways (by focusing, for example, on a place such as a village or town, or on a common interest or a common theme), and the programs that the cooperating institutions carry out together must aim to enhance the importance of the humanities in people&#8217;s lives. \u00a0Projects to create a humanities community might include, for example, collaborations linking A) a public library and a nearby community college to research, write, and produce series of video biographies of the town&#8217;s important personalities (to be presented in public programs at the local historical movie palace); B) several railroad museums throughout a state that join forces to write a transportation-based curriculum module for use in fourth-grade social studies classes; C) three Native American tribes to establish a cultural heritage trail highlighting important sites and collections; D) a veterans&#8217; group and a high school in developing intergenerational family programs at local historic sites; and E) a public radio station and the philosophy department at a local college to host public programs discussing industry and ethics to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the town&#8217;s paper mill. \u00a0Applicants to this program must form collaborative partnerships with at least two and at most five institutions (including the applicant organization). \u00a0These universities, archival repositories, historic houses, school districts, civic centers, or other cultural entities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cost Sharing or Matching Requirement:<\/strong> Yes<br \/>\n<strong>Current Closing Date for Applications:<\/strong> Feb 15, 2017<\/p>\n<p><strong>Award Ceiling:<\/strong> $150,000<br \/>\n<strong>Award Floor:<\/strong> $30,000<br \/>\n<strong>Link to Additional Information:<\/strong> https:\/\/www.neh.gov.grants\/challenge\/creating-humanities-communities<\/p>\n<p>Creating Humanities Communities<br \/>\nwww.neh.gov<\/p>\n<p><strong>General inquiries regarding this program should be made to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>challenge@neh.gov<\/p>\n<p>and\/or the staff of NEH&#8217;s Office of Challenge Grants at 202-606-8309<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Colleagues, The National Endowment for the Humanities is pleased to announce that applications for The Creating Humanities Communities Program are being accepted.
