Prospective research should outline innovative ways to develop novel and low-cost biosensing systems, study the potential for multi-functional nanomaterials and biomacromolecules in biosensing applications and create molecular sensors capable of observing biological interactions (such as protein-to-protein interactions). Proposals outside of these specific areas are welcome.<\/p>\n<p>Proposals should not focus on incremental changes to existing technology and methods, nor should they support any device development such as point-of-care diagnostic systems or any applied medical technologies. NSF is looking for highly innovative biosensing techniques that advance both engineering and the life sciences.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal window is August 15, 2012 to September 18, 2012. The award will be offered around the same time next year.
