They are specifically interested in the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Investigations<\/strong> &#8211; How has social media impacted investigations and clearing cases? How can law enforcement use social media to collect evidence and present it in court?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Situational awareness<\/strong> &#8211; How effective is social media at monitoring potential civil disturbances? Can it enhance officer awareness during an evolving situation, like an active shooter?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Legal issues<\/strong> &#8211; What are the legal and ethical ramifications of police use of social media?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Public outreach<\/strong> &#8211; Can social media be used to enhance community-oriented policing activities? Are citizens requesting police assistance via social media and how should law enforcement handle these requests?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Awards typically do not exceed 3 years and $500,000, though there have been exceptions for certain projects. Applications are due April 26, 2013.
