The National Science Foundation’s ADVANCE Program seeks to increase the representation and advancement of women in academic STEM careers. Successful proposals frequently include, but are not limited to:

  • Factors in STEM fields that affect gender equity
  • Methods of organizational transformation that will create a more even gender distribution
  • How academic culture at varying institutions affects gender equity
  • The impact of broadening female participation in higher education

ADVANCE supports three types of proposals: Institutional Transformation (IT), Institutional Transformation-Catalyst (IT-Catalyst) and Partnerships of Adaptation, Implementation and Dissemination (PAID). IT proposals focus on innovative and systemic organizational reforms that increase the participation, advancement and retention of women in academic STEM fields. IT-Catalyst projects are institutional self-assessment projects that collect data and propose solutions on all STEM fields at the home institution. PAID proposals are partnerships between multiple institutions and organizations that support ADVANCE program goals.

IT programs run for five years and have various award sizes. IT-Catalyst awards are typically $200,000 over two years and PAID awards offer up to $750,000 for five years. Letters of Intent for IT & IT-Catalysts projects are due October 4, 2012, and October 5, 2012 for PAID projects. For more information, see the link below:
