This National Institute on Aging Funding Opportunity Announcement seeks to expand understanding of the role of families and interpersonal relationships in the health and well-being of older people. Applicants are encouraged to use a wide array of highly innovative methods and approaches. Possible research topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Life-course studies
  • Kin availibility
  • Siblings
  • Family structure
  • Childlessness
  • Role of the family in healthcare behavior compliance
  • Family networks and social networks
  • The family as context for genetic expression
  • Living arrangements
  • New models to understand generational transfers
  • Decision making and obligations
  • Policy consequences in later-life families
  • The role of technology

Application budgets are not limited, but should reflect the actual needs of the project. The maximum project award period is five years. Applications are due February 5, June 5 and October 5 until May 8, 2014. For more information, see the link below:
