Dear Artists, Design Professionals, and Arts Organizers:

The National Endowment for the Arts is pleased to announce the Our Town grant program for creative peacemaking.  Through Our Towns projects, the NEA intends to achieve the following objective: Livability: American communities are strengthened through the arts.  

Grants will be awarded for creative place-making projects that contribute toward the livability of communities and help transform them into lively, beautiful, and sustainable places with the arts at their core.  Our Town prioritizes partnerships between the arts organizations and government, private, and nonprofit organizations to achieve livability goals for communities as they strengthen through the arts.

Projects should represent the distinct character and quality of their communities, and must reflect the following:

– A vision for enhancing the livability of the community.
– A systemic approach to equitable civic development.
– Support for artists, design professionals, and arts organizations by integrating the arts and design into the fabric of civic life.

Due Date:  Expected September 2016

Eligibility:  Arts and design organizations that provide services to the field, national and regional place-based industry organizations that provide technical assistance to the doing place-based work.  This may include housing, transit, community development, environmental, and economic development organizations who wish to engage in creative peacemaking activities.  Must have at least two primary partners:  1)  nonprofit organization, and 2)  local government entity, as defined by the guidelines.  One of these two primary partners must be a cultural (arts or design) organization.  Must have a three-year history of programming prior to the application deadline.

Award Amount:  The applicant must request a grant amount at one of the following levels:  $25,000, $50,000, $75,000, $100,00, $150,000, or $200,000.  NEA will award very few grants at the $200,000 level; these will be only for projects of significant scale and impact.  A 1:1 match is required.
