The Borchard Fellowship in Law & Aging affords three law school graduates interested in an academic and/or professional career in law and aging the opportunity to pursue their research and professional interests for one year. Fellows receive a $42,500 stipend, work full-time and must provide some pro bono direct legal services to older persons. Examples of activities and projects by Borchard Fellows include:

  • Writing and publication of law review articles on law and aging issues
  • Analysis of Medicare policies or SSI non-disability appeals
  • Writing and publication of state specific, conusmer oriented handbooks on legal issues affecting older persons
  • Development, administration and interpretation of statewide senior legal hotline outcomes study
  • Organizing and attending national conference on law and aging issues
  • Development of training materials and statewide trainings for lawyers, judges and other court personnel, and social service providers on new comprehensive state guardianship laws
