Autism Speaks is offering $100,000 over one year for highly innovative autism research that provides new insight into the causes, diagnosis, subtyping, prevention, treatments and cures of autism. Trailblazer projects must be extremely novel and high risk/high reward. Projects must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Understand environmental risk factors and their interaction with genetic susceptibility
- Discover biomarkers that improve risk assessment and allow for individualized care
- Improve quality of life through more effective medicines, behavioral interventions and technologies
- Enhance diagnosis and treatment of underserved groups, including non-verbal persons, ethnic minorities, adults, people with medical co-morbidities and the poor.
- Disseminate and implement evidence based clincal practices to the broader community
