The National Science Foundation (NSF) is offering up $100,000 for 1-3 years of research on biosensors. Prospective research should outline innovative ways to develop novel and low-cost biosensing systems, study the potential for multi-functional nanomaterials and biomacromolecules in biosensing applications and create molecular sensors capable of observing biological interactions (such as protein-to-protein interactions). Proposals outside of these specific areas are welcome.

Proposals should not focus on incremental changes to existing technology and methods, nor should they support any device development such as point-of-care diagnostic systems or any applied medical technologies. NSF is looking for highly innovative biosensing techniques that advance both engineering and the life sciences.

The proposal window is August 15, 2012 to September 18, 2012. The award will be offered around the same time next year. For more information see the link below:
