Problems Today with Faculty and Admin Email – RESOLVED

Faculty and administrative users today reported intermittent problems accessing their email.  Beginning approximately 11:00 AM there were intermittent outages today affecting access via Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Web Access (OWA, a.k.a. “Webmail”) and email syncing with mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones.  These problems were intermittent and did not affect all users or access methods – some users were unable to log in to OWA but could get their mail via Outlook, while at the same time other users were able to access their mail using OWA but not Outlook.  These issues were traced to a failing fiber optic cable in the data center.  All systems are now working normally.

Update 6:45 PM:  There were some additional brief intermittent outages this afternoon as the University IT Services systems and networking team, with the assistance of Microsoft and CISCO, conducted additional tests to make sure they had isolated and resolved the networking problems experienced earlier today.
