Personal Safety

Freshman Studies Module

The Sexual Assault and Violence Education (SAVE) team is identified as a group of selected students, staff, and faculty who have attended a training program with the Essex County Rape Care Center. The team’s role is to serve the campus community by responding to calls from survivors of sexual violence through our 24-hour on-campus anonymous helpline: 877-655-7278.

Our team provides a supportive contact for callers as well as concrete information on a variety of issues including survivors’ rights and procedures for reporting the incident. Callers are guided through the process of understanding and assessing their options to make their own decision. SHU public safety and Student Services personnel also provide educational programming to promote awareness of sexual assault issues throughout the university community.

In addition, SAVE offers a number of programs and events each semester that provide information on areas such as, domestic violence, sexual assault, women’s history and women’s health issues. We create programs that are fun yet educational and foster an environment that allows men and women to gain knowledge of special topics.
