Our club mission is to culturally enrich and serve the Seton Hall community by sharing the understanding of Buddhist tradition as practiced by Soka Gakkai International-USA (SGI-USA).
As a lay-Buddhist organization, SGI-USA upholds the philosophy of Nichiren school of Mahayana Buddhism, which expounds that every individual has the infinite potential and possibility to lead a fulfilling and happy life. Our philosophy respects rights and dignity of all lives and aims to coexist with other cultural and religious traditions with a strong commitment to open dialogue.
Our meetings are open to students with any beliefs, and we are committed to maintaining an atmosphere where students can freely ask questions and discuss ideas and practices related to Buddhism. The club’s main activity includes Buddhist study meetings, where we discuss a chosen topic of Buddhist concept and its application in our daily lives. In our future events, we also hope to collaborate with other clubs on-campus to host inter-faith dialogues. Through hosting such events on-campus, Buddhism for Peace club aims to contribute for the creation of a deeper inter-religious understanding at Seton Hall Campus.Tags: Asia, Cultural, interfaith, Mahayana, Ministry, rights, Service
