In order to help faculty remain connected and to provide ongoing support throughout the summer months, the Center for Faculty Development will be continuing to host virtual opportunities for engagement, discussion, and learning.

CFD WORKSHOPS: THE “LET’S TALK ABOUT…” SERIES
These sessions combine show-and tell as well as Q&A. Each will take place in Teams. The link for each “Live” event is below. GO TO THE SESSION AT THE START TIME.
July 13 – 8:45 – 9:45am
“Beyond Traditional Assessment – Faculty Best Practices”
Colleagues from the Department of Educational Studies will share examples of how they assess student learning beyond traditional methods like tests and research papers. These examples highlight the depth and connections students can make to content in different forms. These approaches include the use of book clubs, community interviews, and more.

“Keeping Research Going in Difficult Times: Strategies from the 2020 Researchers of the Year”
One of the challenges faculty are facing during the COVID-19 pandemic is how to continue to work on their research with increased responsibilities at home, limited access to research materials, and increased teaching prep. Several of the 2020 Researchers of the Year will talk about strategies they are using to do research in this difficult time. After brief, informal presentations, there will be a virtual Q&A where attendees can join the discussion and also share their ideas.

“Planning for Fall Teaching: Ideas from the 2020 Teachers of the Year”
As we plan for a challenging fall semester, several of the 2020 Teachers of the Year will share some of what they’re thinking about implementing/changing/adapting for their courses. Their ideas will include ways to engage students, to do assessment, to do group work, to assign projects, and so on. After brief, informal presentations, there will be a virtual Q&A where attendees can join the discussion and also share their ideas.
