On Thursday, October 11, 2012, senior Robert <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/r3.res.outlook.com\/owa\/14.15.48.0\/themes\/resources\/clear1x1.gif\" alt=\"\" \/>Szeluga met with his group of Leadership students and executives. The discussion began by defining key characteristics of a leader as:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Passion<\/li>\n<li>Trustworthy<\/li>\n<li>Integrity<\/li>\n<li>Competent<\/li>\n<li>Communication<\/li>\n<li>Vision\/Mission<\/li>\n<li>Honesty<\/li>\n<li>Confidence<\/li>\n<li>Organized<\/li>\n<li>Creative<\/li>\n<li>Openness<\/li>\n<li>Humility<\/li>\n<li>Learner<\/li>\n<li>Authentic<\/li>\n<li>Teacher<\/li>\n<li>Negotiation<\/li>\n<li>Compassion<\/li>\n<li>Understanding<\/li>\n<li>Dedication<\/li>\n<li>Philanthropic<\/li>\n<li>Persevere<\/li>\n<li>Humor<\/li>\n<li>Listener<\/li>\n<li>Innovator<\/li>\n<li>Motivational<\/li>\n<li>Generous<\/li>\n<li>Empowering<\/li>\n<li>Adaptable<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>These characteristics were then broken down into groups, and the top 6 groups were chosen as follows:<\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li>Passion, Motivation<\/li>\n<li>Trustworthy, Integrity, Honesty, Consistent<\/li>\n<li>Communicating<\/li>\n<li>Vision\/Mission<\/li>\n<li>Humility, Learner<\/li>\n<li>Creativity, Innovator, Adaptable, Persevere<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Other key topics of discussion regarding leadership included the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Vision\/Mission \u2013 It is important to know what direction the company is going in. A leader has vision in order to better the company<\/li>\n<li>Adaptability \u2013 Learn to go with the flow. You cannot control what happens. Always make sure to have a plan B.<\/li>\n<li>Passion from leaders changes attitudes and sets the tone for the group.<\/li>\n<li>Honesty \u2013 Be cautious and inform others<\/li>\n<li>Everyone is different. Take different approached when talking to others.<\/li>\n<li>The best listeners are those open to the situation<\/li>\n<li>Be honest and specific when giving advice. It is important to get comfortable with the uncomfortable conversation. Trust building will occur as a result.<\/li>\n<li>Surround yourself with people you can learn from \u2013 differences can lead to learning.<\/li>\n<li>Be open to new ideas\/projects \u2013 always ask for more to do.<\/li>\n<li>There is time to figure it out \u2013 your likes will surprise you<\/li>\n<li>Find a career\/job that you want to go to every day<\/li>\n<li>Nothing is beneath you \u2013 be willing to step up<\/li>\n<li>Leaders have to believe that they are pushing for good.
