{"id":408,"date":"2011-10-29T21:26:04","date_gmt":"2011-10-30T01:26:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/cld\/?p=408"},"modified":"2011-10-29T21:26:27","modified_gmt":"2011-10-30T01:26:27","slug":"three-minute-leadership-blow-it-up-begin-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/StillmanLeaders\/2011\/10\/three-minute-leadership-blow-it-up-begin-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Three Minute Leadership: Blow It Up: Begin Again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Early Release: For Sunday, October 30 \u2013 In Case the Power Goes Out<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To:\u00a0 The Great Leaders Who Have a Passion for Continuous Learning<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cAnd when we achieve the outer edge of any of our abilities, we do what comes naturally: we keep moving into the next\u201d writes Tracy Saville in her article, <em>Blow It Up: Begin Again<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0 This is one of the great challenges all great leaders face throughout their professional and personal life: hitting their \u201cproverbial glass ceiling of creativity.\u201d\u00a0 Their continuous innovation \u2013 new ideas, new solutions, new possibilities \u2013 all of a sudden come to a point of apparent exhaustion.\u00a0 So what do they do?\u00a0 Saville\u2019s response is: \u201cBlow it up and start over.\u201d There is a secret.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cAnd this is the simplest secret of all: we can rest, we can lay down our efforts for a time, we can do over, start over \u2013 again and again it seems \u2013 and we can re-charge our batteries using a different fuel source than before.\u00a0 We can because we must.\u00a0 This how we find the courage and inspiration to move forward.\u00a0 The discipline it takes to be comfortable with a life spent in constant change and evolution is the discipline hallmark of every great leader and great achiever.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>John Gardner, author and former Secretary of Health Education and Welfare, wrote<strong>:\u00a0 \u201c<\/strong>Self-renewal is possible if we don\u2019t lose our capacity to learn and grow. But renewal\u2026depends in some measure on motivation, commitment, conviction, the values men live by, the things that give meaning to their lives\u201d.\u00a0 When you feel you are getting to the outer edge or your abilities, pause and rest.\u00a0 Blow it up, and begin again.
