In their book,\u00a0The Truth About Leadership<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0Jim Kouzes<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Barry Posner<\/a>\u00a0suggest that\u00a0forward-looking<\/em>\u00a0ranks second only to\u00a0honesty<\/em>\u00a0as the most admired characteristic of great leaders. They write: \u201cThe capacity to imagine and articulate exciting future possibilities is the defining competence of leaders<\/em>.\u201d It is they who look at current trends and look for the paths to the future. It is their beautiful optimism that opens their eyes, minds and hearts to possibilities. They paint a future vision that excites and engages people taking them from the \u2018what is\u2019\u00a0<\/em>to \u2018what can be<\/em>.\u2019<\/p>\n

Helen Keller<\/a> tells great leaders: \u201cOptimism is that which leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.<\/em>\u201d May your joy and optimism for life and all its possibilities be a defining competence in your professional and personal life. May a forward-looking mindset take you off the well-trodden path. May you joyously wander and explore new wonders and bring the once unimaginable to life-changing realities.<\/p>\n
