He touched on a number of topics, ranging from personal growth to the transformation of his industry and its future. Mr. Sheridan made it clear that the most important part of life is the journey that each of us will take on the way to our destination. On this journey, it is important that we each hold true to our own core values. Mr. Sheridan laid out the core values that he follows in his everyday life, including integrity, respect for all, caring deeply for others and challenging yourself. Using these values, Mr. Sheridan was able to pave his own way from working in the warehouse department at Wakefern to holding his current position as President and COO.

Joe Sheridan, President and Chief Operating Officer of Wakefern Food Corporation, and the Class of 2019.

In order to allow the Class of 2019 to continue their learnings and become the best they could be, Mr. Sheridan provided the students with two books; “Not Quite What I was Planning: a 6 Word Memoir” and “The Five Temptations of a CEO.” An important point made by Mr. Sheridan was that the only constant in life is accelerating change. We all face disruption in our lives, and the world around us is constantly changing at a pace that is, at times, difficult to keep up with. Mr. Sheridan challenged the students in the room to develop their own six word memoirs after reading a few examples from their book. Cody Laska, Class of 2018, made a powerful statement in his own memoir: “get knocked over, get back up.” It is clear that the learnings of the evening will be carried with the Leadership 101 students throughout their college journey and beyond.

On Monday November 9th, Joe Sheridan, President and Chief Operating Officer of Wakefern Food Corporation, joined the Class of 2019 for an evening of learning.
