Because they are consistent, often unconscious patterns, they constantly, daily, express our character.&#8221;<\/em> Our habits, then, are the building blocks of character.<\/p>\n<p>A recent Leading Blog, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leadershipnow.com\/leadingblog\/2015\/10\/20_habits_to_build_your_leader.html\">20 Habits to Build Your Leader<\/a>, discusses <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bradlomenick.com\/\">Brad Lomenick\u2019s<\/a>, book <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leadershipnow.com\/leadershop\/9780718022259.html\">H3 Leadership<\/a>, in which Lomenick suggests twenty habits at the foundation of great character and leadership. He organized them around three key questions that great leaders ask to be highly effective in the professional and personal career journey.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>HUMBLE: Who am I?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Self-Discovery: Know who you are<\/p>\n<p>Openness: Share the real you with others<\/p>\n<p>Meekness: Remember it\u2019s not about you<\/p>\n<p>Conviction: Stick to your principles<\/p>\n<p>Faith: Prioritize your day so God is first<\/p>\n<p>Assignment: Live out your calling<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>HUNGRY: Where do I want to go?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ambition: Develop an appetite for what\u2019s next<\/p>\n<p>Curiosity: Keep learning<\/p>\n<p>Passion: Love what you do<\/p>\n<p>Innovation: Stay current, creative, and engaged<\/p>\n<p>Inspiration: Nurture a vision for a better tomorrow<\/p>\n<p>Bravery: Take calculated risks<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>HUSTLE: How will I get there?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Excellence: Set standards that scare you<\/p>\n<p>Stick-with-it-ness: Take the long view<\/p>\n<p>Execution: Commit to completion<\/p>\n<p>Team Building: Create an environment that attacks and retains the best and brightest<\/p>\n<p>Partnership: Collaborate with colleagues and competitors<\/p>\n<p>Margin: Nurture healthier rhythms<\/p>\n<p>Generosity: Leave the world a better place<\/p>\n<p>Succession: Find power in passing the baton<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aristotle\">Aristotle<\/a> wrote: <em>\u201cWe are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.\u201d<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Warren_Buffett\">Warren Buffet<\/a> said: \u201c<em>Chains of habit are too light to be felt until they are too heavy to be broken.<\/em>\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Dryden\">John Dryden<\/a> tell us: \u201c<em>We first make our habits, then our habits make us.\u201d <\/em>And beautifully <a href=\"http:\/\/www.answers.com\/Q\/Who_is_Frank_Outlaw\">Frank Outlaw<\/a> wrote:<\/p>\n<p>Watch your thoughts; they become words.<\/p>\n<p>Watch your words; they become actions.<\/p>\n<p>Watch your actions; they become habits.<\/p>\n<p>Watch your habits; they become character.<\/p>\n<p>Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.<\/p>\n<p>Habits begin with a single choice, each being the path of our destiny. We are what we repeatedly do. May we continue to be more than we ever dreamed we could be\u2026 and more\u2026 so much more.
