If we get the right emotion, we can get ourselves to do anything…. This is our ultimate resource.” states Tony Robbins in his TED talk, Why We Do What We Do.

Robbins suggests that there are two master lessons in life: the science of achievement, and the art of fulfillment. The former, as a science, is knowable and repeatable – it has rules, you follow them and get results – and as such, “almost everything that’s run is mastered to an amazing extent.” The latter is an art based on decisions that shape emotions. There are three elements: What is the focus of the decision? What meaning (which produces an emotion) is given to that focus? What action will be taken in response to the meaning?

While heralding the science of achievement, Robbins underlines the higher power of “the invisible force of internal drive” – the great leader’s passion, commitment and focus on their life’s purpose. It is these whose meaning inspire, motivate and drive them to achieve their life’s “fulfillment.” It is their “ultimate resource.” Albert Einstein humorously reminds great leaders of the importance of focus: “Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves.” Choose your focus wisely and deliberately. Give bodacious meaning to it, one that will excite the mind, heart and soul. Then, take action and change the world.
