{"id":2547,"date":"2015-10-18T13:58:07","date_gmt":"2015-10-18T17:58:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/StillmanLeaders\/?p=2547"},"modified":"2015-10-18T13:59:06","modified_gmt":"2015-10-18T17:59:06","slug":"three-minute-leadership-extraordinary-success-a-daring-destination-servant-leadership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/StillmanLeaders\/2015\/10\/three-minute-leadership-extraordinary-success-a-daring-destination-servant-leadership\/","title":{"rendered":"Three Minute Leadership: Extraordinary Success = A Daring Destination + Servant Leadership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To:\u00a0 The Great Leaders Who Have a Passion for Continuous Learning<\/p>\n<p>Jonathan Maze, reporting on the Multi-Unit Foodservice Operators Conference 2015, captures <a href=\"http:\/\/popeyes.com\/company\/leadership\/cheryl-bachelder\/\">Cheryl Bachelder\u2019s<\/a>, CEO of Popeye\u2019s Louisiana Kitchen Inc., thoughts on how servant leadership can yield success.\u00a0 Bachelder, he writes, believes that there are traditionally two types of leaders: \u201c<em>Those who focus on advancing themselves and those who focus primarily on serving their employees and customers<\/em>.\u201d The best leaders, however, are those who combine the best of both: \u201c<em>They set a \u2018daring destination\u2019 and focus on results, much like the self-focused leaders \u2014 but along the way they are humble enough to serve others on the way to that destination.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIf we want to be leaders that have a positive impact, we simply must deliver superior performance\u2026. People can\u2019t be served without positive results\u2026. Servant leadership can\u2019t be credible without performance\u2026. The leader has to give confidence that the destination can be reached, but humble enough to know that they don\u2019t control the outcomes.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Bachelder believes that that this style of leadership \u201c<em>requires immense courage and yet a pretty humble soul at the same time<\/em>.\u201d Her concluding remarks captures her passion and belief in the great leader\u2019s servant leadership: \u201c<em>When you think about the meaning and purpose of your life, the only legacy you have to leave on this Earth is in the memory of the people whose lives you have touched.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>May the \u201c<em>daring destination<\/em>\u201d that you have chosen for your life be the inspiration for others to achieve theirs. In all that you do, may you serve them with love and caring that they, too, will be more than they ever dreamed they could be\u2026 and more\u2026 so much more.\u00a0 May this be one among the many of your magnificent legacies. As <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Helen_Keller\">Helen Keller<\/a> reminds us: <em>\u201cLife is either a daring adventure or nothing.\u201d<\/em> Make your life a daring and exciting adventure.
