In this month\u2019s note, he writes about the innate potential given to each of us at birth \u2013 the power to choose: \u201c<em>Our innate potential means we can become so much better than we are today. It is within our control to realize that which we can be.<\/em>\u201d Quoting from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stephen_Covey\">Stephen Covey<\/a>\u2019s book,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_8th_Habit\">The 8th Habit<\/a>, he writes: \u201c<em>Next to life itself, the power to choose is your greatest gift \u2026. Your power to choose the direction of your life allows you to reinvent yourself, to change your future.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To help us release this innate potential, he offers\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stephen_Covey\">Stephen Covey<\/a>\u2019s \u201cfour assumptions\u201d, also from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/8th-Habit-Effectiveness-Greatness-ebook\/dp\/B00AYIDTC4\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1413644076&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=The+8th+Habit\">The 8th Habit<\/a>, writing: \u201c<em>The closer we come to the \u2018four simple assumptions<\/em>\u2019, the greater the difference we will make in every aspect of our lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><em>For the body<\/em> \u2013 assume you&#8217;ve had a heart attack; now live accordingly.<\/li>\n<li><em>For the mind<\/em> \u2013 assume the half-life of your profession is two years; now prepare accordingly.<\/li>\n<li><em>For the heart<\/em> \u2013 assume everything you say about another, they can overhear; now speak accordingly.<\/li>\n<li><em>For the spirit<\/em> \u2013 assume you have a one-on-one visit with your Creator every quarter; now live accordingly.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>We can become so much better than we are today \u2013 a simple statement. We will become so much better than we are today, because we will choose to <em>be<\/em>\u2026 choose to <em>do<\/em> \u2013 a powerful act. As Covey wrote: \u201c<em>Your power to choose the direction of your life allows you to reinvent yourself, to change your future.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What a magnificent gift \u2026 second only to life itself.
