{"id":1750,"date":"2014-01-05T18:47:01","date_gmt":"2014-01-05T23:47:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/StillmanLeaders\/?p=1750"},"modified":"2014-01-05T18:47:20","modified_gmt":"2014-01-05T23:47:20","slug":"three-minute-leadership-find-a-way-then-never-give-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/StillmanLeaders\/2014\/01\/three-minute-leadership-find-a-way-then-never-give-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Three Minute Leadership: Find a Way, Then Never Give Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;font-size: small\">To:\u00a0 The Great Leaders Who Have a Passion for Continuous Learning<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;font-size: small\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;font-size: small\">Speaking in her December 2013 TED video,\u00a0<i>Diana Nyad: Never, Ever Give Up<\/i>, about her historic Cuba-to-Florida Swim, Nyad said that the mantra for her journey was \u201cFind a way.\u201d\u00a0 The\u00a0<i>doing<\/i>\u00a0of her great accomplishment is found in the skills, talents and knowledge she acquired to undertake her trip.\u00a0 It was in her\u00a0<i>being<\/i>, however, that success was fulfilled with exultation and majesty. Her words to the crowd on arriving on the beach were: \u201cNever, ever give up.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;font-size: small\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;font-size: small\">Quipping that the end of her journey was joyous after 53 hours and the 100 miles in the open ocean, Nyad speaks of the excitement and thrill of the journey itself \u2013 five previous attempts, the preparations, the work of the team and turning 60 years old. It was every moment of the journey that filled her life with purpose, commitment and passion \u2013 she would \u201cfind a way\u201d\u2026 and she did.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;font-size: small\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;font-size: small\">Nyad\u2019s accomplishment and life are mirrors of the lives of great leaders \u2013 magnificent and extraordinary\u00a0<i>being<\/i>and\u00a0<i>doing<\/i>\u00a0fueled by unquenchable embers of purpose and passion. They have chosen to embrace life in its fullest richness and beauty in: finding gifts within themselves yet untouched and using them to achieve their next step in performance excellence; learning and changing their world by seeing the world through different eyes\u2026 their own and others; living heroically and selflessly from their values and principles as they give their all to those whom they serve \u2013 family and friends, their business and their community. Each morning they look in the mirror, and with a gentle smile, they say: \u201cThis will be my best day ever.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;font-size: small\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;font-size: small\">Concluding her remarks Nyad speaks of the many plaudits that accompanied her accomplishment, and says: \u201cI&#8217;m proud of it all, but the truth is, I&#8217;m walking around tall because I am that bold, fearless person, and I will be, every day, until it&#8217;s time for these days to be done.\u201d\u00a0 Be that bold, fearless person\u2026 be more than you ever dreamed you could be\u2026 and more\u2026 so much more\u2026 every beautiful moment of your magnificent life.
