Following are the meeting minutes:<\/p>\n<p>How is the Pope stepping down going to affect you and the business world?<\/p>\n<p>Kim:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is noble of him to do so<\/li>\n<li>Doesn\u2019t really affect me or the workplace<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Joe:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Won\u2019t really affect the workplace<\/li>\n<li>There aren\u2019t too many catholic companies or companies that have catholic themes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Did anyone try the challenge of giving up technology for 24 hours?<\/p>\n<p>Kim:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>After the hurricane, it gave everyone a sense of a community<\/li>\n<li>Also by not having television, you didn\u2019t have to see the damage from the storm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Joe:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Part of the reason of taking the hiatus was to stop the onslaught of the wave of information coming at you<\/li>\n<li>Television did not used to be driven by profit driven initiatives<\/li>\n<li>You can choose to take a break from the media outlets trying to get your eyes on the television and your heart racing<\/li>\n<li>Information used to be more factual, now it\u2019s more mayhem and drama<\/li>\n<li>News is more manipulative than it was in years passed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>How do you go about finding more balanced news sources?<\/p>\n<p>Joe:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Look up websites and cruise the articles to find the diversity in articles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Any specific examples of manipulation?<\/p>\n<p>Kim:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There\u2019s tons of office politics constantly in play<\/li>\n<li>Know yourself and what you feel is right<\/li>\n<li>Have sounding boards\/mentors to help you<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t be afraid to ask about the leadership board, its style\n<ul>\n<li>During interview<\/li>\n<li>Try to get an idea of how congenial the company is<\/li>\n<li>Ask open ended questions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Joe:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>At times I chose not to say something<\/li>\n<li>Just go along with it<\/li>\n<li>What to do if you speak out against it?<\/li>\n<li>One of the great things of this program is you get to practice things\n<ul>\n<li>Taking initiative, exploring, speaking out<\/li>\n<li>Take the opportunity to take a risk<\/li>\n<li>Glassdoor website\n<ul>\n<li>Like the \u201cyelp\u201d of the workplace<\/li>\n<li>Ask what the employees do in the off hours\n<ul>\n<li>Gives a sense of culture<\/li>\n<li>Be prepared with questions!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Have you ever talked to peers at the companies you were interviewing at?<\/p>\n<p>Joe:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I just recently did this at an interview<\/li>\n<li>Reached out to the contact I was given<\/li>\n<li>I have done it and coached a lot of people to do it<\/li>\n<li>Especially when you\u2019re on the fence<\/li>\n<li>Frame a question differently, set yourself apart<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Recently read an article that intermittent breaks are better for productivity.
