The key points for the discussion are below:<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Establishing a Code of Ethics<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mission\u00a0statements &amp; an understanding of values are an excellent starting \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 point for an individual\/organization to establish a code of ethics<\/li>\n<li>Actions of leadership should set the example for the rest of the \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 group\/organization<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Ethical Decision Making Process<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Question the legality of your options. If something is not legal, it is strongly \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 advisable to avoid that option.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Trust \u00a0that \u201cgut feeling\u201d when faced with an ethical dilemma.<\/li>\n<li>If this was on the cover of the New York Times, what would it look like for both you and the company?<\/li>\n<li>Make sure you have all relevant information before making the decision. Examine all options before rushing to find an answer.<\/li>\n<li>Do not be afraid to ask for a coworker\u2019s or boss\u2019s opinion on a certain issue.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Cultural Differences<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be conscious of the laws in other countries. What is legal in the US may not be legal overseas<\/li>\n<li>In addition, understand the cultures and customs of other countries. See \u201cWomen in Management\u201d example where overseas businesses refuse to deal with women at the negotiation table<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Other Notes<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Always communicate with your boss. If you need to leave early, ask in advance. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Some workers come in an hour early so they can leave to pick up kids from \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 school or attend functions.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid making exceptions to the rules. One exception or unethical decision can \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 lead to a trend of unethical behavior, which eventually avalanches down on \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 you and your company<\/li>\n<li>When your values differ from those of your company, it is important to present \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 your side in a way that is fact-based.
