The freshmen were not kidding when they said “Get your beads, boas and bow ties ready because the Freshman Leadership Class of 2017 is throwing a Great Gatsby Gala!”

Thursday evening on February 6th the entire Leadership Development Honors Program along with Michael Reuter and Dean Strawser gathered in the Atrium to celebrate with the freshman. After spending numerous hours organizing, planning and decorating, the freshmen transformed the Atrium into a blast from the past.

As guests entered, they signed in and were given raffle tickets for a variety of prizes. Two of the freshmen, Geoffrey Thomulka and Luciano Cundari, were able to acquire $400 worth of gift cards and baskets from restaurants all over South Orange. Some of these included Village Pizzeria, Toro Loco, Tito’s Burritos and many more. Some of the bigger prizes incorporated a Starbucks basket and an Ashley’s Market basket.

Once a large crowd entered, our MC’s for the night, Brian Bozzo and John Postel, announced appetizer was being served and then the freshmen geared their audience towards the photo shoot station. There was a large supply of different props that everyone used to take funny, memorable pictures. Between mingling with one another and having dinner, a slideshow with all the Leadership students was featured to highlight some great times spent together.Fabian Lucciola, DJ for the night, got the crowd pumped up and dancing on their feet. With hits from the 20’s, the Cha Cha Slide and the YMCA, everyone was enjoying their night, singing along and taking pictures. As much as everyone loved the chicken fingers, mozzarella balls, steak and pasta, nobody could resist the cake. There were two types of cakes that were offered. There was red velvet cake and strawberry shortcake.

By the end of the night, excitement from each student filled the room to see who the raffle ticket winners were. This concluded the night for many who were ready to head out. However, others took over the dance floor and continued to dance the night away. Needless to say, the Great Gatsby Gala was a great one! By working together and communicating, the freshmen were able to pull off an unforgettable event.
