My name is Sean Barry and I am a student at Seton Hall University studying Broadcast & Visual Media with a concentration in TV Production and I work as an Assistant Editor at a small production company in Little Falls, NJ.
This blog was inspired by one of my hobbies, Sports Photography. I began getting into photography about 5 or 6 years ago and started with just my cell phone camera at the time, which was a Droid Turbo. My Dad had season tickets to New York Red Bulls games and we sat in pretty good seats where I could get decent pictures with my phone. Eventually I began to use my sisters Canon Rebel T3i from the stands and the quality of pictures improved greatly. However, a few of my friends who were also Red Bulls fans got involved in an SB Nation blog for the New York Red Bulls called “Once A Metro”, which comes from the NY Red Bulls former name “Metro Stars”. This was right around the same time I was looking for somewhere to display my photos as I didn’t think using my own personal Instagram was the best idea for continuously posting photos of the NY Red Bulls. Lucky for me the blog did not have an Instagram or photographer at the time but were looking for one, so I was given command of the account and began to post my photos.
About a year later the guys at Once A Metro asked me if I was interested in getting a media pass through them and going down on the field. At first I was hesitant and put it off because I didn’t think I was a good enough photographer or didn’t have the right equipment to do it. However, after awhile I figured I might as well give it a try because it could only improve my photography in the long run. As i got more and more into photography and specifically sports photography I decided to invest a bit of money into new gear and a few months after I began shooting on the field at Red Bull Arena, I purchased a Canon 7D Mk II and a new lens.
So that is how I began my journey to becoming a semi-professional Sports Photography. Below I put a progression of my photography over the years to show where I started and where I am now.
